Located 25 miles Southeast of Las Vegas and Henderson, Boulder City is a small community of about 13,000 people. Boulder City was planned and built by the Bureau of Reclamation to facilitate the construction of Boulder Damn. During construction the Federal government remained in ownership of the property that nearly 7,000 people lived in. The government kept control of Boulder City and built a fence around it and controlled it with a gate, it outlawed drinking, prostitution and gambling. The damn was completed in 1935 but the town didn’t incorporate until after January 1960 as it took until 1958 for Congress and President Eisenhower to release the town from federal control.
This well planned little town is a favorite for retirees. The home lot sizes are small but the shops are quaint and the pace of life is slow and graceful. No gated communities here. No slots or blackjack as gambling has been banned here since it was founded in 1931. This little desert town has never been interested in cashing in on its proximity to "Sin City" Las Vegas.
