Henderson is situated on the southern rim of the Las Vegas Valley spanining from east of the Boulder Highway to Interstate 15. Geographic features include: Lake Mead, the Sloan Canyon National Conservation area, access to the Colorado River, Black Mountain, River and the McCullough Mountains.

Henderson City is a the second largest City in Nevada. It is suburb of Las Vegas and is directly connected to the Greater Las Vegas business community. Most people can not tell when they drive out of Las Vegas and enter Henderson. There are some differences that make Henderson a different place to live. Henderson has its own police and fire departments. These services are not apart of the Las Vegas Metro police and fire departments. Many Henderson residence feel that they are more responsive to their citizens needs.
Henderson has a variety of homes to choose from. The city's land use is 51% residential. The City of Henderson as of 2006 had 25 master-planned communities.
Henderson was originally a magnesium factory for World War II and all housing was owned by the companies and government. The magnesium when combined with stronger metals, made airplanes that were faster, lighter and easier to maneuver.
Basic Magnesium Incorporated (an American and English company)was later sold to the State of Nevada (through the Colorado River Commission of Nevada) as war surplus and then later incorporated April 16, 1953. The city now covers a large area of the south part of the Las Vegas Valley. Henderson recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary.
Within the City limits you will find communities such as Green Valley, Anthem, Seven Hills, Sun City Anthem, Sun City MacDonald Ranch, MacDonald Ranch, Green Valley Ranch, MacDonald Highlands and the famous Lake Las Vegas.
Henderson has one of the best shopping districts in all of Las Vegas. If you take the Hwy 95 south to the Sunset exit and turn right you can find a plethora of shopping.
Old town (water street) Henderson looks like a small midwestern town and maintains is small community flavor. Don't let this little streets easy going feeling led you to believe that this is a sleepy City as it is one of the fastest growing Cities in the U.S.
